Shaun Is Energized And Losing Weight With Juicing

I have been a devoted Jay Kordich follower for over 11 years. When I was 20 one of my friends introduced juicing to me in the Air Force. I bought the Juiceman Jr. and never looked back. I listened to the cassette that came with it and bought his book to know the benefits of everything I was juicing.

After getting out of the Air Force I moved around a lot and I wasn’t juicing as much. I put on about 20 lbs and began to feel thuggish. My wife and I lived in LA and had gym memberships but weren’t motivated to go. We were not happy with our health. I got a job in Hawaii as and air traffic controller, and we sold everything. We got out there and saw how active everybody was and the energy everybody had so I went out and bought another juicer. But not just any juicer I knew it had to be a Juiceman Jr.

We were there for 5 years and juicing anything local from the farmers markets we could get our hands on (mostly organic). I know having one of the most stressful jobs that I needed a boost to keep me active and energized and the Juiceman was the ticket. Over the couple of years I worked out there, I converted quite a few coworkers and their families to a lifestyle of juicing. I let them borrow my old copy of the The Juiceman’s Power Of Juicing and their families loved it. Their teenage kid’s faces cleared up with carrots and green peppers. My wife was losing weight and my coworkers ALL reporting back that they are full of energy, all of us from 30 to 60 years old.

We just moved to Denver in April and once again had to start over, my first purchase was the new Jay Kordich PowerGrind Pro. It works great. I’m 31 and in great shape, with the most energy I’ve ever had and dunking a basketball again this year, something I haven’t done since I was 18, (I’m 5’11).

Thanks for everything Jay!

Juicing For Weight Loss In Her Own Words

I am in my forties, a mom of two – a seven and eleven year old boy and girl. For more than ten years now, I have been brain washed into thinking that after the age of thirty and after having a baby, and worse yet two or more babies, (especially by c-sections like I had) I have to be contented with a fat bulging belly – because this will never go away. I made up my mind to love myself the way I was: This is the acceptable look of a mother in her forties. Wrong!!

I became convinced one morning as I listened to the infomercial, advertising Jay Kordich PowerGrind Pro Juicer and all the health benefits of juicing, that I DID NOT have to settle for a body size and look that I DID NOT like! I got out of bed, picked up the phone and made the call, I ordered the juicer. I am happy I did.

I did the three day cleanse/detox as outlined in the book Live Foods Live Bodies. By day three, as promised, my body felt great and alive in a different way; I felt new. I had a colon cleanse that made me feel relieved on the inside: My tummy felt “cleaned out”; it was like emptying a garbage bin – and then the bin is so fresh and clean you just don’t want to put back any trash in it! I cross my heart to this, this is exactly how my inside felt!

The new feeling was so vitalizing I could not stop at the three days cleanse: I continued consuming only juices for a week. OMG!! I lost a whopping twelve pounds, mostly from my gut! I gradually went back to eating regular, but healthy foods as advised by Jay, while I continue juicing everyday.

My face and skin looked younger in less than two weeks! I now have a flat belly. I feel and look so much younger; I feel like I’ve put down an uncomfortable baggage. I have to be buying smaller blouses and jeans, but all that money could never buy the compliments and health I’ve gained from juicing. I now look and feel greater than I have ever been for the past ten years.

Every aspect of my being feels better …emotions, mental alertness… no common colds, no ailment… juicing for me has come as an on-going medicine. I’ll advice the world: CATCH ON TO JUICING! It’s like going back to Eden.

Important Differences between Fruit and Vegetable Juices

Fruit and vegetable juices are the cleansers, energizers, builders, and regenerators of the human system. Specifically, fruits are our cleansers and energizers and vegetable juices are our builders, and regenerators.  Freshly extracted fruit or vegetable juices will supply all the enzymes, vitamins, minerals, protein, and some fats critical to increased vitality! Adding live juices to one’s diet as a daily routine, many claim brings them a rejuvenating effect and help the disorders such as obesity, cancer, leukemia, arthritis, high blood pressure, kidney disorders, skin infections, liver disorders, alcoholism, and smoking. Supplying the body with easily absorbable nutrients, so that anybody, even with compromised immune sytems or assimilation challenges, juicing penetrates into our intestinal walls, making assimilation almost immediate. This is because when you juice freshly made fruit or vegetable juices, they are 100% pre-digested.  For the elderly, fresh vegetable and fruit juicing is essential!
As we age, our assimilation factors decrease due to digestive weaknesses and illnesses we incur as we grow older.  Some say that as we reach the age of 70 years old, most of us can only absorb 20% of the nutrients we consume through eating.  Not so with juicing.  No matter the age, juicing is 100% absorbable.
For most health conditions, juice fasting is the best method to transform health quickly and effectively, no matter our age.  However, as we age, we are also more susceptible to detoxification symptoms as we start to juice more and more power juices such as greens, carrots, beets, etc.,.
This is why combining these vegetables helps ease some of these symptoms when we add neutral fruits to the mix such as apples.
Through juicing at least 1 quart of power juices daily, thousands of individuals have claimed they have experienced major relief from serious diseases such as cancer, leukemia, arthritis, high blood pressure, kidney disorders, skin infections, liver disorders, obesity, alcoholism and even smoking. Because juice fasting quickly and efficiently removes toxins and excess fatty tissue while supplying a full spectrum of nutrients, (such as antioxidants, phytochemicals, vitamins, minearls, enzymes and micronutrients), it has an advantage over any weight-loss program. Juicing literally –nourishes every cell of our body and floods the body with nutrients that energize the body’s natural regenerative abilities.
Here is one of our favourite juice combinations that effectively help our immune system and our overall health ~ at any age!
(for 2) ~ (Organic Only Please!)

Fresh Gazpacho Soup ~ Living ~ Luscious ~ and Super Easy!

Our Fresh Gazpacho

Here’s our recipe you guys asked to see!  It’s fantastic….loaded with anti-oxidants, Lutein, Enzymes, Phyto-chemicals….

Ingredients

4 Cups (fresh) Tomato Juice (juice approximately 6 ripe Tomatoes)

3 Cups Tomatoes (diced)

1 – 1/2 Cucumbers, (diced)

1/2 Cup Orange or Yellow Bell Pepper (diced)

1/2 Cup Fresh Cilantro (chopped)

2 Stalks Celery (diced or chopped)

2 Ripe Haas Avocados (peeled, pitted and diced)

5 Cloves Garlic (minced)

2 Tbsp. Olive Oil

1-2 Tbsp. Fresh Lemon or Lime Juice

1/2 Cup Green Onions, (chopped for garnish on top of each bowl of soup)

Directions:

In a large mixing bowl, combine all the ingredients except the avocado and mix well.  In a blender, add 1/2 of this mixture and blend until smooth. Pour the blended ingredients back into the mixing bowl.  Cover and refrigerate for 3 to 6 hours.  Serve cold (summertime only) and garnish with chopped gren onions.

The reason why we don’t blend the avocado is because it makes the soup a bit brownish looking as it gets mixed in with the red tomatoes.  To keep the integrity of the redness in the soup, you shouldn’t add the avocados for blending, just keep them as they are (diced).  Plus it adds for more texture in the soup.

Special Notes:

If you want more bulk in this soup to make it more bulky…like the photo below, add the following:

1 Carrot (diced)

1 Zucchini (yellow or green) (diced)

Flax crackers are fantastic with this soup to make for an entire meal.  :)

Hope you enjoy it!!! :)

Juicing and Blending….You need Both!

JUICING and BLENDING…You need both!
Today I am going to explain what the late, great, Master Teachers taught to me about the differences between juicing and blending back in 1948 to 1960.  That would be Dr. Max Gerson, Dr. Norman Walker and Dr. Kirschner.
There are two distinct reasons behind the differences between juicing and blending, but first let’s talk about how juicers work and the reasons behind juicing.
Some juicers extract the pulp out the back (like our slow juicer, The Power Grind Pro does) and other juicers squeeze out the pulp from an auger type of a juicer like the Champion, the Greenstar or the Samson and Omega.
For example, when you are juicing your greens, the greens hit the blades, and within a half of a turn it’s in your glass, and the pulp is out in the bucket within an instant, so the oxidation process is not as near as intense.  However, not all juicers are equal in this aspect. Some juicers spin so fast (16,000) rpms, that the friction is quite high when the produce is hitting the blades.  It depends, but it is still by far less agressive than blending your foods. Juicing extracts all fiber (pulp) from the foods, so that when you are drinking the juice, it’s 100% free of pulp. Some people think this is not as smart as blending so that all the pulp and juice are combined. This assumption cannot be further from the truth, so this is why I am going to explain it in depth so that you, in turn, can help people understand the truth.
When you juice fruits/vegetables/seeds/nuts/grains…whatever it is you are jucing, these JUICES become pre-digested, meaning they go into our bloodstream immediately, bypassing any need for digestion because they are in pure juice form.  Have you ever drank alcohol and/or coffee and felt the effects from it within just a few minutes?  Well that’s because alcohol and/or coffee has no pulp in it and has a powerful effect on the body, negatively of course!

Almost every human being living now has huge challenges with digesting the foods we eat.  It’s not really about the digestion as much as it is about the ‘absorption’ of the foods you are eating. Statistics say that as we age, we absorb 10% less every ten years of our life. So that by the time we reach the age of 50, we are only absorbing 50% of the foods (nutrients) we are eating and by the time we are 80 years old, we are only abosrbing the nutrients from the foods at the rate of 20%. Some people absorb only 5-10% by the time they reach this age.
This is why juicing is so important.  Absorbing 100% of the nurients is why juicing is an incredible way to feed our bodies. Yet I can understand why so many of us are blending our greens and fruits because it seems natural to say, “the juice and the fiber are better to consume together, because all this fiber is going to be wasted unless I blend them together”
This is not accurate.  Let me explain.
Yes, juicing is devoid of fiber!  Fiber has no nutrients in it, once the juices have been extracted from it.  Fiber that is left behind in your juicer should be used in your compost bin or best used as mulch for your flower beds.  It should ‘not’ be consumed in the ways we are consuming it through the process of blending.
However, fiber is quite important…..But ONLY when fiber is found in the foods you eat, not in foods you are blending.  For example, let’s say you eat a salad.  You begin chewing, and once you start to chew, your salivary glands start to produce enzymes called Ptyalin, and another enzyme called Amylase.  These enzymes secrete saliva so that your foods are absorbed into your stomach easier.  As you chew, you swallow.  Did you know that the stomach has something called a peristaltic wave?  It beats at 22 beats per minute, helping us evacuate the fiber from our bodies.  Now, once the food is in the stomach, the stomach begins to separate the pulp from the juice.  The juice (or liquid) from the salad now is being absorbed through the intestines, when then go into your portal vein, and then into the liver to feed our 60 trillion cells.  Meanwhile, the fiber is being pushed through the intestines,  (which is 33 feet combined from the mouth to the anus).  This is the reason why We as humans NEED fiber, but through eating our foods. Through this process, the body is doing what a juicer is actually doing, separating the fiber from the juices, so that our bodies can assimilate the nutrients that have been extracted from the fibers. This is why I have been saying for 63 years….
IT’S THE JUICE FROM THE FIBERS THAT FEED YOU!”
Your juicer is separating the fiber form the pulp so that your body can absorb the liquid part of the foods through your intestines and the fiber is being evacuated out of your large bowel, so that, once it is out of the body, it has done its job.
BLENDING:
Blending is quite different. There are two major actions that we need to be aware of before we start to think about blending foods. First, the intense speed factor need to be considered, and secondly, drinking the juice with the fiber is not a wise choice.  I will discuss both of these.
#1 (Digestion) For example, if you are adding green foods such as spinach, kale, parsley, apples, to the water in the blender, we need to realize that adding water to the foods is creating a real challenge to our digestive tract.  First, we are not allowing the salivary glands to mix in with the blended foods, so, once we swallow it, it has now left our mouth and is sitting in the stomach, but…. without the proper enzymes to help with digestion! Now the stomach has to begin the process of separating the pulp from the fibers, so that the body can evacuate the pulp out of our body, so that the body can absorb the liquid part of the blended foods.  THIS is the process of digestion.  Did you know that if, even the size of a microscopic fiber were to reach your bloodstream, you would die of a blood clot?  This is why the body has to separate the fibers from the juices.  Consuming blended juices this way, without the help of the salivary glands, can and most likely causes distension in the stomach, intestinal gas, bloating and also give us an unnatural feeling of being too full. Plus you will not feel energized, you will feel sleepy because now the blood that was in your head has to go down into the stomach to help digest the blended foods.
#2. (High Speed)  The foods you are blending are spinning at unimaginable speeds.  25,000 revolutions per minute. But it’s worse than that. It’s really 25,000 times 4 blades as they spin in unison, or sometimes these newer blenders have 6 or 8 blades.  When you multiply those blades times 25,000….you get way into the 100,000 to 150,000 revolutions per MINUTE.  These speeds heat up your foods, destroying the lifeforce, as they unnaturally rip apart these tender tissues from the plant’s leaves.
What happens to the food when it’s being blended that quickly?  Friction and heat is what happens!  Through this process, we lose all valuable enzymes that were once in the greens or fruits or foods.  We also lose valuable nutrients.
Why?
Because high speed kills enzymes and nutrients and oxidation occurs.  This is why SLOW juicers (like our new Power Grind Pro)are being designed and manufactured  so that, through slower speeds we are preserving the nutrients and the friction is minimal, if not, non existant.  Now the enzymes we are searching for, and also the powerful anti-oxidants, phyto-nutrients, vitamins and minerals are being preserved, and are in tact, ready to be absorbed into your bloodstream, in perfect order.
This is why I can’t understand why people will go to the trouble of purchasing a very expensive slow juicer, yet also have a high speed blender.  I want to make sure we are looking at these important issues, because as a teacher, this is my job!  It’s my job to help us all better understand the choices we make to help us build powerful and effective LIVING KITCHENS.
High speeds kill, so keep your blending to a minimum.  Foods such as bananas, avocados, figs, salad dressings, living soups and 99% water fruits such as mangos, etc.,. are great for blending, but just remember, that when you are blending, you should have a slower speed blender as  you blend your living soups, otherwise they could be called cooked soups!  Start your blender off slowly and do not use the high speed button.  This is what Linda and I do.  For example, we blend about twice a week, but we juice twice a day.
Making smoothies is really fun, however, just remember that JUICING is meant to feed the body in a superior way, and blending is more for smoothies and fun.  If you must blend, please try to blend only on low speeds.
This is why Juicing is entirely different than Blending.  Please share this and/or re-post this on your page so that others can benefit from it. Thank you.

The Vegan Diet and Weight Lifting

I have been a vegetarian for 65 years. The vegetarian diet is by far better for long term body shaping, body building than flesh food (meat) diets, in my opinion. I have witnessed, for many many decades those who choose flesh food diets versus vegan/vegetarian diets and I can say that every vegetarian I knew back in the sixties worked out up until their 80′s, still have svelte bodies.  The flesh food eaters bloated up as they aged and most didn’t make it past 70 years old, and if they did, diet related diseases got the best of them.

Granted, life was different back in the sixties and perhaps the meat eating friends I had were also drinking and smoking, which I have noted most flesh food eaters smoke, drink and eat heavy red meats, as if it were some kind of magnetic cycle that attracts them to these kinds of foods and lifestyles.  These factors also need to be accounted for.

Here’s an example:

My dear friend, Carl Lewis won his 8th gold metal because I taught him about juicing six months beforehand back in the mid 1990′s.  It was the intake of heavy green juicing that gave him the endurance and fortitude to excel and win his 8th or 9th metal in the Olympics!

I am not a big fan of just body BUILDING to buff up your muscles, because in the long run, it’s better to focus on endurance body building via either a sport or general weight lifting. If we pump up too much, it causes imbalances in the body, because we need steroidal supplementation and/or unnatural tonics to keep our muscles expanded. Men or women who weight lift this way will struggle to be healthy, long term, because their muscles soon turn to toxic fat because they can’t keep up decades of this way of living. Once they stop the intense weightlifting, it all turns against them because the diet is flesh oriented, which is good for carnivore animals…they need super fast adrenaline to capture their prey, and then they consume the flesh, then sleep. They also only have very short intestinal tract … perhaps only three feet, compared to our 33 feet from mouth to rectum.  For example, carnivores do not live as long as the vegetarian animals such as elephants, horses, etc.,.

If you want a short life but you want to look like Jay Cutler, then go for it, but you will be cutting your lifespan in half if you eat a primarily flesh food diet with all the controversial supplementation that is required to keep a body like this. I KNOW these things, as when I was young, I was a very successful football player for USC and for the Green Bay Packers until I tore a large muscle in my right leg, which threw me out of the game forever.  I was foolishly eating steaks everyday because they were given to us during football training and during our season.  I soon became quite ill afterwards, ultimately getting bladder cancer that not just knocked me out of the game of football, but almost out of the game called LIFE, that is, until I met Dr. Gerson and he taught me about juicing.

I recommend green juicing (high proteins) with other protein such as seeds, quinoa, beans (soaked beforehand) and seaweeds such as Nori, tempeh, almond butters and almonds. These foods are all mostly complete in their 9 amino acid chains. And they work beautifully through the digestive tract….as humans we have 33 feet of intestines that foods need to go through in order to pass through our bodies in a bowel movement.

All flesh foods are NOT fiber, so therefore have a difficult time getting through the long chain of our intestines, and that’s why fiber is quite important for us humans.

I could go on and on….but suffice it to say, green juices make a fantastic tonic before and after your weight lifting exercises. Apple/Celery 50/50 meaning 50% apples to 50% celery make a fantastic replace of potassium/sodium balance for long term workouts.

I also recommend exercising outside, in Nature. If going to the gym is your only means, then I say do it, but if you have an opportunity to run outdoors, for example, or learn to play tennis, badmitten, golf…these sports also enhance other parts of our brain that deliver inner joy and the Vitamin D we desperate need in the wintertime that ONLY the sun can give us. Milk does not have natural Vitamin D in it…they have to fortify it with vitamins. Not only do we need the sun for the Vitamin D, but our eyes need it….it’s all synergistically part of the mystery of Mother Nature.  Suffice it to say, if you can’t get the sun, then get the SUN from these beautifully sunbaked vegetables and fruits in juice form!

Don’t forget also….our new Power Grind Pro Juicer actually makes NUT JUICES out of our juicer, where you don’t have to blend the nuts anymore…we can actually juice them and when you drink fresh almond milk for the first time, it’s an incredible experience. Remember, freshly made almond milk with added fresh apple juices makes for a powerhouse tonic before a workout as well.

This is the tonic Linda and I use after our workouts:

1 cup dandelion greens

1 cup parsley

1 cup spinach

2 green or red delicious apples

1 medium lime with skin

8 ribs celery

1 unwaxed cucumber

Try juicing carrots/greens/beets/apples/supergreens such as dandelion, spinach, kale, etc.,. with your carrots and you will have longer and better workouts than others.

Best of Living Health to you!

How to Lose Weight in 3 Days with Juicing….and lots of food!

Losing weight, especially when we are over the age of 45 seems impossible.  The truth is, as we age, our metabolism naturally slows, our passion for exercising and enthusiasm just seems a bit skewed.  It’s just natural, as we age, things change for us as our priorities take on different hues.

However, that does not mean we should allow ourselves to stay out of shape, carrying around those extra 20 or 30 pounds.  It’s dangerous on all levels.  So, instead of starving ourselves, and going to the gym with all those young kids, try adopting a 3 day SuperJuicing Diet…and once you finish this diet, you will be raring to workout, even if it’s just on your own recumbent bicycle or taking a long hour walk daily.

If you have a 3 day weekend coming up, or if you are retired, take three days to focus on juicing and within the first 24 hours you may notice something quite surprising!  After the initial taste adjustments, and the few headaches you may encounter as you give up the coffee, alcohol and sugar…… you will notice a naturally balanced surge or energy and your skin will start to glow.

Here’s our 3 day Super-Cleansing Diet ~ Good Luck and don’t hesitate to write to us!

Our Seven Day 100% Living Foods and Juice Diet with Super-Salads
(designed for two people)
Linda and I are sharing some sample recipes from our book: Live Foods/Live Bodies, a 100% vegan and 75% Living Cookbook that we published and is part of our Living Health Program on our website: www.jaykordich.com.
These recipes are foods we use every day, and is basically the way we live and eat on a daily basis. It’s very important to start your day off with green juices.  Also, we like to use the same ingredients for our evening juice as we use for our super-salads, as it makes it easier to prepare meals and also we drink our juice with our dinner to help with digestion as these juices are rich in enzymes to help better our digestive processes.
We also use Super-salads as our evening meals, and since we are not completely raw, sometimes we will use some spinach tortillas, or organic corn homemade tortillas to use in our salads while we are eating, in case we feel like something a bit heavier, but in the spring/summertime we usually don’t add cooked foods into our salads, but in the fall/wintertime we add cooked grains into them and/or tortillas/or flax crackers to balance off all tastes and textures.
We hope you like them!

Freshly Made Vegetable Juices!

Take our “One Week” Challenge to Juice!

Jay and I will share a bit of information with you about juicing and juicer challenges.

Basically, a juicer ‘can’ make a heck of a mess and become highly challenging for people who don’t really ‘use’ their kitchen daily.  Basically it comes down to setting our priorities to either a commitment to adding more liquid greens and juices into our bodies or not. We must dig deep down into ourselves and take control of whether we are willing to do this or not. We already KNOW what it feels like ‘not’ to juice and eat well, right?

Why not take a challenge to see what you would feel like if you were to eat and consume more living foods and juices?
It’s a week’s commitment…that’s all it takes to decide whether or not it’s worth it, and we know you can do it, at least for a week!

Here’s How:

Our recommendation is always organize first! I know…I know…..it really feels irritating, but it’s the ONLY real way we are going to establish a long term and successful juicing habit. It shouldn’t take more than 30 minutes to do this, if you can create the ‘will’ to just DO it. Here’s a few techniques we do to help the process:

Ask your kids or your husband to help. If they say no, then when you come home with all that beautiful summer produce, and start to juice……juice for yourself and they will get the message really quickly! We have learned, after raising two children (who are now 26 and 24), that if they want juice, they need to participate in the entire experience…..and it’s good for them to learn these skills, and that goes for husbands, lovers or partners too!

How do we start?

Put some beautiful music on that you like, get comfortable in some sweats or something and dig down into the bowels of your refrigerator and clean it out. We usually do this on a Saturday or Sunday morning because this is the day we don’t go to work, and our biggest farmer’s markets are on Saturday.

It’s absolutely magical what happens next……

When we put the energy and effort into deep cleaning our refrigerator and our counter-tops and get our floors cleaned and pantry in good shape,….then now we have the room for a NEW LIFE.

It’s not just the physical ‘room’ ~ it’s the ‘mental and spiritual and emotional’ room you are creating now to bring in this new ENERGY and VITALITY and LOVE for yourself and your family that we are creating.

Once your kitchen is cleaned, take your children or husband with you, go to your local farmer’s market or place where you trust to get good, organic and/or pesticide free greens and veggies.

Now what?

Do you live in an area that supports local farmers? (If not, then find out online where you can go, even if it’s a thirty minute drive out……it will be relaxing and entertaining to you and your kids and/or husbands, wives or partners.) Heck, why not even bring a friend to come with you?

Jay and I live in the most beautiful area of Washington where there are real farmer’s markets twice a week, and there is a place just a few miles from us called Joe’s Garden, and they have five acres of land and sell non-sprayed veggies, flowers, fruits, seeds, nuts…..everything! We take our bikes with big backpacks and stock up once a week for lighter produce……because we can’t be hauling 50 pounds of carrots on the back of our bikes, right? (that’s a funny visual….although I have done it before with about 20 pounds and I was soooo sore the next day.)

Ok….then What?

Come home, put some good music on, open the windows and get prepared NOW to organize, wash and store your newly found wonder foods! (We write at length about this in our book, Live Foods/Live Bodies, in our Chapter entitled Our Living Kitchen).

Wash and soak them all in a good solution, clean them, store them in either zip lock bags (after you spin dry the greens) and set them in your refrigerator. Cut the ends of your carrots to ensure the bottoms are not dirty or full of fungus.

Now your carrots are cleaned, your greens are washed and you are prepared for the next week’s worth of juicing!

Then what?

If you make this effort alone, just to juice……and juice 1.5 to 2 quarts of juice for yourself daily, you will notice a huge huge difference in your energy levels, your skin and your overall wellness. There’s so much more to it……but for now, this is a good start!

Our next note will be about how to wash, store, clean and juice summertime fruits and berries and exotic greens.

Love to you all!

How to Build a Living Kitchen

Love your LIFE and your WIFE!

I like to say that our living kitchen is a manifestation of truly believing specific appliances and loving attitudes actually makes your kitchen your food and your life come alive. Chop wood/carry water is a big part of our living kitchen. We need to begin to feel comfortable in our kitchen, to relax…creating it to become a sanctuary for us. Most of us have negative images in our head and heart about feeling as if we are the ones who ‘have’ to buy produce, prepare meals, clean up after the meals, because the rest of the family is too busy with their lives, so we end up feeling resentful, and unappreciated.

We both work hard in the kitchen, together as a couple!  It’s important that we share the preparation and cleanup of our meals, otherwise, whoever is in charge will start to feel resentful, and resentment cannot be a part of our beautiful new living kitchen, because as you will see if you buy our book, Live Foods/Live Bodies, we dedicate an entire chapter on how to build a living kitchen, from the inside OUT.  Which basically means….it’s not just what we eat that creates harmony and wellness in our lives, but it’s also what we think and what we feel inside that plays a huge role.

Chop wood/carry water is a good example to start to understand this Zen-like approach towards learning to love the discipline and patience it takes to embrace something we need to do everyday of our lives. Let’s face it, we have to face our kitchens more than once, if not twice or three times daily. We are responsible for nourishing ourselves and our families health and wellness. Chop wood/carry water means practicing something on a daily basis with these virtues such as patience and respect, reliability and perseverance laced with love and appreciation, so that in time we become ‘ONE’ with ourselves and our relationship to our kitchen instead of this defunct and dysfunctional daunting responsibility we used to see our kitchens as being.

Here are some ideas how you can start practicing to build your own living kitchen:

1. Keeping our kitchens clean on a daily basis

2. Providing our kitchens with  ”living” appliances (see page 83 in our book, Live Foods/Live Bodies for a description of our Living Appliances)

3. Keeping our mind on beautiful thoughts about those we are cooking for, even if it’s only for ourself.

4. Sustaining our refrigerators with living foods and greens, prepared for juicing and supersalads.

5. lighting a candle in our kitchen to give reverence to Mother Nature, to our loved ones and to our own divine self…. out of gratitude for these gifts and opportunities.

6. Place flowers from your garden onto your kitchen island or near your sink.

7.  Ask yourself every time you prepare a meal, or even when you are eating a meal outside of your home:  ”How much of my meal is Alive?”  This way you will begin to realize just how much cooked food you are eating! Once you get into the habit of asking yourself this question, it will start to come automatic to you, that at least 60% living, raw food needs to be a part of our every meal.

Now that I understand this…then what?

On a saturday, when most of us want to sleep in or go shopping…why not turn on your favorite cd, light a candle and re-do your kitchen? Clean out the pantry, the refrigerator, wash the floors, buy flowers or better yet, pick some fresh herbs from your garden or buy some to make your kitchen smell fragrant. While you are working in your kitchen, you can clean and store your greens for the week and cut your carrots and beets for either juicing or super salads.

Relax into the chop wood/carry water principle. Consistent presence in your kitchen by building these rituals twice a month to ensure your relationship with your kitchen is alive and well is the road to loving your living kitchen.

With consistent dedication laced with love….real devotion and love, your kitchen will start to take on a new face, and you will start to resonate more with seeing it as a sanctuary rather than a place of dis-connection, drudge or duty.

Once you get your kitchen nicely organized, you can start to think about replacing some of the appliances that do not support living health..with empowering “living kitchen” appliances. Then you will start to wake UP to the fact that juicing daily, eating supersalads, keeping a beautiful kitchen is absolutely transforming!

Depending on how old you are, you may well have negative memories relating to nourishment or your kitchens, meals, etc.,. where nobody was home, nobody cared, or if they cared, the food was purchased from restaurants, fast food places, or perhaps put together without much care for nourishment or love. The last place you thought LOVE would live could have been in the kitchen.

Perhaps you had a great experience in your family then, and even now, and that nourishment with either foods or love were not an issue for you….wow what a great platform then for you to build your own Living Kitchen without any real struggles to overcome first….but for a lot of us………..

Your kitchen can be a very stressful place in our home, or it can be a place of relaxation. For those of you who have had trouble identifying yourself in the kitchen as someone who is loved, appreciated and honoured by your family members or even yourself, then you should know this can be changed, altered and if you like….be totally transformed.

For example, let’s take a look at what a transformed kitchen looks like. Most of our kitchens have appliances such as: coffee maker, deep fryer, slow cooker, aluminum and teflon coated cookware and tools, and the obvious ovens, and stoves. These are appliances that truly take our ‘vital’ health away from us. How can we build vitality and living health when our own appliances we have, can’t come near to supporting this new and transformative way of living and being?

Here is what a living kitchen looks and feels like: vital nourishment on every level; physical, mental, spiritual and emotional. Most regular appliances or foods don’t build nourishment whatsoever, yet in our living kitchen, living foods create true nourishment in our bodies. Living juices such as freshly made juices also build nourishment and ‘life’ in our bloodstream as it also builds ‘life’ in our entire being. Our living kitchen also is a wonderful platform for placing our living appliances on the countertops of our kitchens such as…juicers, blenders, soymilk makers, dehydrators, tofu makers, electronic sprouters, electronic herb gardens….wow, can you imagine how incredibly vital you are going to feel and “Be’ … when your kitchen mirrors your quest for you and your loved ones to be healthy, vital and nourished on all levels?

Living the simple life…connecting to real, authentic, unadultered foods and fresh juicing can help us better understand the beauty of natural foods, mother nature and the awesome transforming powers of a working and joyful Living Kitchen.

As Natural Living Food preparers, we really DO work harder everyday in the kitchen, but by using these meditative and loving principles of prayer, gratitude and love for who we are and who we love, helps us ease into these daily kitchen duties with grace.

Hugs to you all from me and Jay ~ and here’s to Joyful Juicing!

Our Powerful Super-Green Recipes to Juice Now!

Benefits of Green Juice!

Leading medical authorities, nutritionists, dietitians, and other known experts in the medical field recommend that we consume three to five servings of green leafy vegetables a day. No vitamin or medicine is a legitimate substitute. The healing elements that are found in green leafy vegetables are so powerful and synergistic, no combination of synthetic medicines or supplements could ever match their power.

six main benefits of green foods are:

1. Chlorophyl from the dark pigments of the greens
2. Natural Trace minerals ~ hard to find!
3. Vegetable Protein which is easier on our human bodies to assimilate
4. Powerful Natural Plant Enzymes
5. Alkalizing our bloodstream (helps eliminate inflammation)
6. Cleansing detoxifying effects for major organs of our bodies

Chlorophyl:

Chlorophyll, a green plant pigment, is quite possibly the most powerful element that exists in the universe. Chlorophyll is one of the most intensely researched elements in history and has been used in the treatment of everything from periodontal disease, diabetes and low iron, to open wounds, ulcers and body odor.

it has only been recently that our scientists and researchers have started to study the powerful healing abilities of green plants, so look for more and more research to come in our favour as they progress into the mysteries of plantlife and why our human bodies need them on a daily basis.

Today, foods that contain chlorophyll are gaining wide acclaim for their ability to prevent disease.
While science does not fully understand the miracle of chlorophyll, we do know that its chemical makeup strongly resembles hemoglobin (the portion of the blood that carries oxygen). The major difference between the two chemical structures is that the center element of chlorophyll is magnesium, while the center element of hemoglobin is iron. And did you know that carrot juice, strangely enough is almost identical to the structure our human blood? Only one chemical is different.

Here’s a great LINK about carrot juice and all the beneficial qualities: (so don’t forget to add carrots to your green tonics as well!)

http://www.carrotmuseum.co.uk/nutrition2.html

Some research is now suggesting that chlorophyll can efficiently release magnesium, and replace it with iron. In other words, chlorophyll can actually be converted to hemoglobin, which increases the flow of oxygen to all parts of the body.

The ability of the body to maintain an environment rich in oxygen is important for several reasons. One of the most important benefits is that it allows the body to release more carbon dioxide, which in turn, reduces stress on the body, creates greater energy and endurance, and creates an aerobic environment. In an aerobic environment, disease cannot get started.

An aerobic environment also is beneficial to the so-called friendly bacteria, and detrimental to bad bacteria. The good bacteria promote digestive health, while bad bacteria contribute to such things as disease, body odor, and bad breath.

tom wrote this lovely note today, and we wanted to share it with you all.

Here are Jay and my favorite green tonics………….and don’t forget, when it’s summertime, MINT is in season!

(for two)

8 ribs celery
2 green apples
1 cup parsley
1 cup spinach
1 cup mint
1 inch square fresh ginger root
1 medium size lime, (juice the entire lime).

—————————————————————–

1 cucumber (whole without wax)
1 cup parsley
1 cup wheatgrass
1 lime (whole lime)
2 green apples
3 large kale leaves or swiss chard leaves
1 inch fresh ginger root

—————————————————————–

want or need something simple?

here’s one:

8 ribs celery
2 green apples
1 cup parsley
1 lemon (whole lemon)

These are all powerful green tonics and can be used as JUICE AIDS even if you are eating a cooked meal or a salad with cooked grains in them. These tonics help digest the cooked foods, by bathing them in your stomach, as they are rich in enzymes amongst other great digestive aids.  See our book, Live Foods/Live Bodies, page 20-21 for the benefits of consuming Digestive Aids during meals.

We don’t recommend adding tomatoes or other fruit in digestive juice tonics. Apples are high in enzymes and are also very compatible wise with greens.

We recommend our POWER GRIND PRO  for these tonics to get the BEST dark green juice, surprisingly better or equal to the Greenstar or the Samson Juicer, or the Champion. Why spend $600.00 if you don’t have to?  If you have a pulp ejector juicer, then that’s ok too, but the green juices won’t be as green as if you use a triturating type juicer, so you may have to use more greens to get the darker colour. The darker the better!

Here’s to JUICE!
