Juicing raw Potatoes is a valuable natural remedy which can provide help for our digestive system, including benefiting ulcers, digestive disorders, constipation and diarrhea. It can help eliminate acids in the stomach and relieve ulcer pains. For such treatment, it is recommended to use the juice of red potatoes and also the new potatoes. It is important that red potato juice should be consumed right after is it made. For making a good potato juice, all potatoes should be washed out, dried out, where all the black spots are removed. Also, you should never use juice of immature (green coloured) potatoes or the potatoes with black dots since such potatoes can contain certain toxic substances. If you mix it with carrot juice (25% of raw potato juice and 75% of fresh carrot juice), raw potato juice can help to calm down burning sensation and gastritis pains.
Since raw potato juice is not that tasty, you can mix it with other veggies…..but if you want to keep the potato juice in its raw form, with no combining, you can add fresh lemon juice to it. Taken raw like this in the morning, this tonic is excellent for digestive disturbances, and constipation, and/or diarrhea.
Linda and I don’t usually recommend potato juice raw because it’s quite potent, and should be considered taken only with nutritionists and/or naturopathic doctor’s guidance. There are certain problems and ailments connected with the function of our digestive system, which can be escalated by using a potato therapy.
Potato juice can be effective also when combined with Parsley, Cucumber, Lemon, Carrot, Celery, Beet, Apple.
The best potatoes to use are the small white, and never juice potatoes without washing thoroughly and cutting out all eyes and dark spots beforehand.
Here’s some interesting information about the healing properties of Potatoes:
Potatoes are nutritious and easily digestible, so they are suitable for all ages. They are diuretic, soothing, anti-spasmodic and help with digestion. Below are some therapeutic uses of potatoes:
Anemia: Potatoes are excellent sources of both iron and folic acid, which are essential for the production of red blood cells. For this reason potatoes can be used as a natural aid in the prevention or treatment of different forms of anemia.
Arthritis: Like rheumatism, arthritis is an inflammatory condition. The high minerals, potassium and organic salt content in potato makes it one of the best anti-inflammatory food. Slice a potato together with the skin and soak in a glass of distilled water. Drink in the morning before meal.
Burns, rashes and other skin irritations: When applied on the skin, raw potatoes (cut into slices or juiced) have anti-irritating, soothing and decongestioning properties. It can be used to treat a wide variety of skin irritations and conditions, including burns, rashes, as well as skin redness, itching and dehydration.
Constipation and hemorrhoids: Boiled or steamed potatoes promote the formation and passage of soft, hydrated stools. So they can be effectively used as a natural remedy to treat constipation, eliminate bowel straining and prevent hemorrhoids.
Gastritis and gastric ulcers: Perhaps the most common use of raw potato juice is to treat gastritis, colitis, gastric and intestinal ulcers, due to its anti-acid and healing properties. In these cases, to get the maximum benefit from potato juice, it is advisable to drink a half glass of it 3 to 4 times a day, for at least one month.
High blood pressure: Potatoes are excellent sources of potassium, which helps lower and stabilize blood pressure.
Joint and other types of pain: The regular consumption of raw potato juice is a valuable remedy in relieving pain associated with arthritis, gout and even headaches.
Rheumatism: The juice extracted from raw potato is an excellent remedy for rheumatism. It is very detoxifying for a toxic condition. Take 2 teaspoons of the juice before meal for best effect.
Tired eyes: Raw potato is really a useful aid for tired eyes. Apply thin slices of raw potato on the eyes at least twice a day, eyes dark circles will miraculously disappear!
Weight loss: It’s a myth that potatoes are fattening. It is the oil in fried potatoes that causes weight gain. Raw potatoes are an excellent alternative for cereals and grains in any weight-loss regimen, due to their lower calorie content.
Do you realize that when we turn towards SUN FOODS, we are also transforming the Inner, spiritual part of ourselves as well?
First, let’s talk about sunfoods.
What are Sunfoods? These are foods that grow from the ground, from trees such as fruits, nuts and seeds that become transformed into foods edible for us to consume…..perfectly ripened by the sun. These are perfect foods, rich with vitality, love and knowledge!
It is precisely these foods that us humans need in order to feel spiritually connected to the planet, and most importantly, to the humanity we so desperately need on this big beautiful Earth.
Did you know, that when the sun’s rays touch the Earth, it stimulates the seed from deep within the ground, to sprout and soar towards the sun? It’s in this mysterious process ~ perfectly designed, by the way, where we need focus our attention, because it’s not just the foods that will help us transform our lives for the better…. it’s the mysterious and magnificent gifts we receive from a higher source that will heal ourselves and our planet when we consume these plant foods and their juices.
For example, if we could feel the pain others feel…. feel the isolation and unfair degredation our brothers and sisters have to endure day by day, our world would change overnight.
Why? Because when you hurt, I hurt. It’s that simple.
Yet, if it were that easy, we wouldn’t be facing such an overwhelming dilemma we are facing now. We need to wake up from the dream we have been living in….When we start to break free from the deep, dark crusts of apathy that wrap around our heart and soul, we begin to truly feel…..we begin to feel the pain of our own disconnection to the world, to ourselves and our loved ones. This is the beginning of understanding that our diet plays a huge role in the way we think, act and live.
Sunbaked, living foods and their juices will help us wake up from this dark dream we are living in. Let the colour of these juices stream into your body. Let the blood of the plant enrich our souls. It is precisely this act that will help us all understand how much power we have in this world to change, yet the irony is, the more of us change to a plant based diet, the more we ALL transform.
This is the reason why, that the more we teach, come together and unify, the more we can and will heal the entire human race. It may sound like pie in the sky, but actually, if you transform…..others will become inspired and do the same, and this becomes expenontial as we progress. It’s the fastest and most comprehensive way to enlighten ourselves and our planet, and more and more of us are waking up to this humanitarian new way of living on this beautiful blue Earth.
How do I know this?
When I was a little girl, back in 1960……I distinctly remember imaging what our world would look like when I was older. Would there be vegetarian restaurants? It was literally impossible for us to go out to a restaurant with our family back in the 1960′s because we were vegetarians back then. Only Chinese restaurants had the foods, and even then, one had to be careful….their sauces were laden with animal products such as fish sauces, etc.,.
It’s been 40 years since I had this thought, and look at the world! Everywhere we go there are vegetarian options. People by the millions are changing their diets and riding this beautiful new wave of healing.
It is possible!
I wonder what the world will look like 40 years from now? It’s up to us all to take this farther and farther, deeper and deeper until the majority of the planet is enlightened by choosing a plant based diet. As we ‘hook up’ to the green juices, the plant based diet foods, we begin to wake up…..and start to see ourselves and our planet quite differently. We will ‘start’ to bloom inwardly, igniting the spark of compassion, love and understanding, just as naturally as a fragrant red rose blooms in the summertime.
Drinking fresh green juices quicken this process!
These deep, rich and magnificent colours imbedded in these plants, specifically, the esoteric information permeating within these plants…. become filled with divine knowledge, and will….indeed transform our lives into a profound understanding of ‘who’ we really are.
Especially in juice form.
Green juices are powerfully healing in their abilities to quicken this process, yet let’s look at fruit for a moment……
Fruits are the gifts from trees, and are the manifestation of True Love from the Universe. There are no real words to describe their essence, their beauty or even the purity of their gifts to us. Have you ever sat under a peach tree…..smelled the fragrance and felt the weight of the branches as they swayed towards the ground during a gentle breeeze in the middle of the summer?
This is exactly what I mean….there are no words, because experiencing is the answer. I sure hope you invest in our Beloved Mother Nature. She will not just inspire you….. she will thoroughly metamorphosize every cell in your body….enlightening your mind, body and soul.
(By Linda Kordich) As summertime closes, some us of feel a sigh of relief as the sun starts to let up on its intense rays, and others feel a sigh of saddness because for some of us, summer was not long enough. At least for me and Jay, we only had about six weeks or summertime, but thankfully the peaches, cherries, nectarines, watermelons and fresh corn were quite plentiful.
Do you ever think about how we are ‘all’ integral to the flow of seasons? Do you eat around the seasons? Since Jay and I have moved from sunny Southern California three years ago to the far north up here in Washington, we have begun to realize just how important it is to eat foods in our area, and to eat foods that grow in season. We definitely have four seasons here, yet in San Diego there was really only one season: Sunny! This caused us to imagine all fruits and vegetables were in season because, even our health food stores were shipped organic cantaloupes in December from Paraguay, strawberries in November, and corn in February! If you live in the Southern Hemisphere and get fruits and vegetables from around the Globe year round, ask your Grocer which fruits and veggies are in season….get to know what is most prolific in your local area. (At the bottom of my blog, you will see a list of general fruits and veggies in season for the Fall in America.)
Through the decades of teaching juicing, Jay and I have begun to realize that buying our produce from our local farmer’s organically, and eating our foods that are in season is vitally important to integrate into our lives. Plus it puts us on the “Nature Clock” so to speak. Now we are on the wheel of balance, according to Nature……to the Sun’s cycles which in turn, helps us flow into balance with natural biorhythms. (Let’s not forget too, that eating foods from your area, in season provides more all around nutrients.)
I’m not sure we realize how connected we are to the Universe’s movements, much less our own Earth! Most of the time we usually become oblivious to the outer world as we get caught up in our inner lives, our worklife and our love life……that we forget ‘where’ we really are and ‘who’ we are.
We experience Summer in the Northern Hemisphere when the Earth is on that part of its orbit where the Northern Hemisphere is oriented more toward the Sun and therefore the Sun rises higher in the sky and is above the horizon longer, and the rays of the Sun strike the ground more directly.
As we approach the visual beauty of Fall, let us embrace Mother Nature’s changes of weather, as She cools us down from hot and blistery, to cooler, wet and thunderous weather. Let us observe how She turns the colours of leaves into works of art, as they feverously fly through the wind, creating kalidescopes of wind art…….let us be grateful to Her as She delivers us deliciously tasting and colourful fruits and veggies such as pomegranates, persimmons, pears, apples and squash onto our tables.
Most importantly, remember we are all spinning on this great globe called Earth…..let us ‘all’ flow with Her!
Here’s one of our favourite Fall Recipes.
Pomegranate Maddness (all ingredients….organic only please)
1 Large Pomegranate
2 Firm D-Angou Pears
1/2 inch fresh ginger root
1 Large Gala or Fuji Apple
Directions: De-seed the Poms! Remove as much of the seeds from the pomegranates as possible. Leave about 5% of the white pith to juice, as it’s very rich (but bitter) in bio-flavinoids that help us get through wintertime without catching a cold. Start off with a handful of the seeds, then flush through with part of the pear and/or apple. Then add the ginger root, and flush through with the apple or pear. Finish off with the rest of the seeds, then finish with the apple or pear to make sure all seeds are flushed through the juicer. If you don’t have a juicer, you can use a blender, and strain until the juice comes through. Too much pulp creates tiredness and is harder on digestion. You will absorb MORE nutrients from the juice, than from the blended way.
Here is a list of produce in season during Fall!
Typically, the following fruits and vegetables are in season during fall:
- Brussel sprouts
- Green beans
- Green onions
- Sweet Potatoes
- Winter squash
Recently we have been hearing about the negative impact juicing kale, spinach, broccoli and other cruciferous vegetables may have that is causing or may cause goitrogenic effects (goiter inducing). Some research is saying that juicing these veggies creates a negative experience on the body, when juiced. Steaming, cooking and/or boiling them is suggested, and the longer the better. (30 minutes).
This kind of recent research makes me pause a bit because, based on our past history, 30 plus years for me and 63 years for Jay, it does not make sense to say that cruciferous greens or goitrogenic foods (goiter inducing) needs to be cooked in order for them to not provoke the thyroid in negative ways.
For example, Dr. Garnet Chaney did a powerfully extensive study on cabbage juice and how it literally cured stomach ulcers. He and Jay participated in this study back in the 1960′s with prisoners who were suffering from stomach ulcers; (duodenal and peptic) and found that almost 90% of these ulcers were healed with 60 to 90 days after consuming fresh cabbage juices on a daily basis. Even the British Journal, Lancet showed these powerfully enlightening studies. When they tested cooked cabbage on the ulcers, there was no response.
Further, Dr. Walker, Jay’s mentor and master teacher on juicing from the 1930′s through to the mid 1980′s, has said in his book, Raw Vegetable Juices, where he speaks very highly of fresh green juices, including cruciferous vegetables, stating that they are better digested and consumed in juice form.
That being said, we eat a lot of cruciferous vegetables in our salads, so we do eat them, but we also realize that eating broccoli is harder to consume than juicing it. Sometimes we even steam them.
However, we feel that drinking liquid broccoli juice is by far more concentrated and digestible in juice form than to eat three or four cups! Yet…we like to mix up juicing them with other vegetables.
We have been juicing spinach and other cruciferous veggies for many decades, with no goiter abnormalities with our Thyroid whatsoever. We also have not been eating salt like “Mortons” Salt which is inflused with extra iodine. We use highly mineralized salts like Himalayan Salts or Pink Mineral Salt (Celtic Salts). And we eat lots of seaweed on a weekly basis, particularly, I do because of post menopausal symptoms feel better when I eat seaweed. These types of salts have a natural balance of all minerals, including iodine.
On the other hand, we have never suggested drinking pure kale juice, or broccoli juice straight. We recommend always, that greens be combined with other greens or other veggies for better asorption and for concentrated benefits specifically designed for a particular part of the body.
We may be old fashioned, but all of our great Master Teachers from the past; Dr. Norman Walker, Dr. Max Gerson and John Lust never spoke about the dangers of consuming kale juice or broccoli or cauliflower juices. On the contrary, they speak highly of the healing benefits to the breast area of our bodies, whether we are men or women.
We like to imagine all these dedicated doctors from the past, including our combined 100 years of studying, observing and teaching by far outweighs a few articles that say that goitrogens may cause thyroid distress. That does not mean we are dead set against some of this research coming out about the juices inhibiting the thyroid’s ability to do its job.
All we are saying is that we all may want to observe the research, and then find out for ourselves what feels comfortable, based on our own experiences with these foods…. but please don’t throw the baby out with the bathwater until more research is found, and always check to see ‘who’ is conducting the research.
Here are “Goitrogenic” Foods:
Certain raw foods (cooking inactivates the goitrogens) have been identified as lightly goitrogenic. These foods include:
- Soybeans (and soybean products such as tofu, soybean oil, soy flour, soy lecithin)
- Pine nuts
- Bamboo shoots
- Sweet Potatoes
- Vegetables in the genus Brassica
- Bok choy
- Broccolini (Asparations)
- Brussels sprouts
- Chinese cabbage
- Choy sum
- Collard greens
- Kai-lan (Chinese broccoli)
- Mustard greens
- Rapeseed (yu choy)
Tomato season came late for us this year. It’s just about now that tomatoes are reaching their full potential, so when we were at the Farmer’s Market here in our town, we scrambled for those tomatoes….and boy oh boy….those tomatoes were bursting with colour, size and flavour!
I thought today we could share some important information about tomatoes and why we should be using them, especially in the summertime.
Tomatoes are actually ‘better’ juiced with other veggies that are high in carotene. Studies show that when combined with other foods that are high in lycopene as well as carotene, the absorption and effectiveness are powerful.
How to Juice: Juice the entire tomato, as it can be very juicy. You may want to run the pulp through the juicer again to get more juice out. We usually alternate between pieces of tomatoes and greens to assure the tomatoes are not slipping through the back. (Carrots do a great job too).
First, let us say that tomatoes are technically a fruit. Not many of us like to see it this way, probably because most of us don’t think of biting into a tomato for a sweet natural treat, although we love to do it! A ripe peach in the summertime sounds more like it for most people. Even though tomatoes are considered a fruit, Jay and I don’t treat them like a fruit when considering the factor of juice combining. Tomatoes are incredibly good for us. Rich in one of the most powerful phyto-chemicals yet to be discovered: Lycopene. At the bottom of our article you can read about all the ways it helps food related diseases.
Tomatoes blend very well with the following Veggies:
*Spinach, Parsley, Kale
*Cruciferous: Broccoli, Cauliflower, Brusell Sprouts
*Peppers, Cabbage, Potatoes, Celery
*Avocado (not recommended for juicing)
*Mint, Basil and other fresh herbs.
You can combine ‘any’ of these veggies with tomatoes for an excellent Juicing Tonic.
Here’s a tonic that is one of our favourites: (for 2)
2 Large, fully vine ripe Red Tomatoes
1 cup Cilantro (if you don’t like Cilantro, use Parsley, or you can do it half and half)
2 cloves Garlic (small or large, depending on how strong you would like it to be)
1/2 Lemon with peel
4 Ribs Celery
4 large leaves Basil
This tonic is ‘very’ effective for the benefit of our eyes, stomach and digestion.
Here’s another beautiful Tomato Tonic! (for 2)
3 Large: Yellow, Red and Purple (each) Tomatoes
1 Red Bell Pepper
1 Orange Bell Pepper
This tonic is especially excellent for our eyes and also is high in Vitamin C.
Here’s some great information about Lycopene and Carotenoids:
Some research suggests that carotenoids actually work synergistically, and that the antioxidant activity of lycopene is enhanced by the presence of other carotenoids, specifically lutein. More studies are needed to clarify these relationships.
This is why it’s GOOD to be juicing foods that are rich in lycopene and carotenoids such as carrots.
This carotenoid found in tomatoes (and everything made from them) has been extensively studied for its antioxidant and cancer-preventing properties. The antioxidant function of lycopeneâ”its ability to help protect cells and other structures in the body from oxygen damageâ”has been linked in human research to the protection of DNA (our genetic material) inside of white blood cells. Prevention of heart disease has been shown to be another antioxidant role played by lycopene.

Here’s a fantastic recipe from our Living Kitchen! Raw, living Salsa is such a wonderful food to eat in the summertime. You can put it over baked potatoes, over a blended soup, over a salad, and/or on top of anything cooked to help that cooked food become more ‘alive’ with enzyme activity.
What do we mean by ‘alive’ with activity? We are talking about living foods that have not been cooked. Jay and I recommend 75% living foods in our diets to help digest the 25% of cooked vegan foods we eat. If you have a majority of living foods in your diet, the cooked foods you are eating will greatly benefit just by virtue of the plethora of enzymes in the raw foods.
Here’s a great recipe you can use to put over the top of your living soups, cooked soups, baked potatoes, salads, rice dishes, or as a side dish to a cucumber sandwich!
*Note: (Leftovers can be juiced….if you have any of the spinach/parsley/tomatoes/garlic/basil/bell peppers left…juice them up and add some carrots and now you have a fantastic veggie juice to go with your meal…and you don’t have to throw away the extra foods)
Here are the ingredients: (for 4)
1/2 cup cilantro
1/2 cup flat leaf parsley
1 sweet onion, chopped
3 cloves garlic
1/2 cup basil
1/2 cup red bell peppers, or orange or yellow, or mix them together
2 seeded jalapeno peppers
1 cup spinach
Take all of these ingredients and run them through the food processor.
(if you don’t have one, then use a blender, but do it on very slow speed)
Then put all ingredients into a large bowl and add the following ingredients
3 beefstake tomatoes, chopped and seeded.
juice of 2 limes
salt (celtic seasalt preferred) to taste
chili powder to taste
1 cup diced sundried tomatoes (soak for several hours if needed)
As an addition to make it heavier:
2 Haas Avocados ~ mashed and mixed into the recipe the end.
Today we are going to chat briefly about three power packed wild greens that very few people are juicing, nor are they using in their diets, yet these three little greens can seriously help detoxify your kidneys, liver and purify your bloodstream.
Don’t know what these greens are?
Have you ever taken a walk in the park during Springtime and seen wild dandelion leaves and Stinging Nettle leaves growing randomly in the park? I remember those crazy wild yellow flowers from the Dandelion Greens that seemed to sprout up overnight, and who can ever forget the powerful nettle leaves that sting so badly, it would take 24 hours to get the pain to go away?
Drinking them in tinctures and/or herbal infusions are quite different from juicing them. Just make ‘sure’ you know your greens. This is why we say, purchase them from stores, instead of randomly picking them up in the open fields, parks or forests.
Miraculously these three different greens pack a powerful punch when they are juiced. And no, the stinging Nettles do not get into your throat when you juice them! And no, the yellow flowers that accompany them are not suggested for juicing.
How do we find Comfrey, Stinging Nettles and Dandelion Greens?
Most all Farmer’s Markets carry them, and Co-ops have them in the summertime. Ask your grocer, and ask your farmer’s market people. If they don’t carry them, they will most likely know where you can go to find them.
What’s the best way to select them?
Dandelion Greens are best picked when they are young. The older the leaves, the more bitter they will taste. Jay and I love the kinds of Dandelion Greens that have a red stem to them. They have a bit more iron in them.
Helpful information: Dandelions support digestion, reduce swelling and inflammation, and treat viruses, jaundice, edema, gout, eczema and acne, also aids in liver detoxification and strengthens kidney function.
Comfrey leaves follow the Dandelion Greens as far as picking goes. But if you don’t have them growing in your neighborhood (we don’t really suggest doing this because people use pesticides on their lawn and also pesticides for spiders) so we suggest buying them from the Health Food Stores, Co-ops and other Farmer’s Markets.
Helpful information: Helps liver detoxification, kidney weakness, abd soothes irritable bowel syndrome and bronchitis.
Stinging Nettles ~ follow the same course. The larger they are, they more bitter they are. Buy them (wrapped) so that your hands do not touch the leaves.
Helpful information: An effective tonic for gout, weak or overburdened liver/kidneys, nettle is also good for the symptoms of hay fever, scurvy, PMS, and helps heart patients.
Here are some fantastic juice combinations Jay and I have been using for the past six or seven years:
(Just as an FYI….these greens are very potent, and we suggest you start slowly, and don’t drink more than 8 ounces at a time) because you may incur a bit of diarrhea, intestinal cramping or nausea. This recipe will give you 8 ounces, whereas you can juice this tonic once a day for ten days without having any kind of negative reaction. If you want to amp it up a bit, then double the recipe for one person, 16 ounces.

1 Lime with skin
1/2 Beet with its greens
Wild Comfrey (for 2)**

**Comfrey cannot be used for women who are pregnant or lactating.
We use carrots quite frequently in vegetable juices. We love carrot juice, but that is not true for everybody. It’s normal to imagine carrots being part of almost every tonic! However some of us just don’t like to drink carrot juice, yet on the other hand, some are allergic or find carrots to be too sweet because of pancreas troubles, and/or hypoglycemia, diabetes.
Doctors are saying no to fruit juices for those who suffer from blood sugar problems, but let’s not throw the baby out with the bath water.
We realize this can be an issue for some people, and it’s true, carrots have become hybridized, so much so, that their natural sugar content is much higher.
We have good news!
You don’t have to bypass juicing any longer…..hopefully our substitutions will bring you some help.
Whenever you see a juicing recipe that calls for carrots, we recommend you substitute l large zucchini for approximately 3-4 medium sized carrots. So if the recipe calls for 10 carrots, use approximately 3 large zucchinis.
Zucchini, in its raw state has a very sweet taste and also juices very well.
Here’s a great TONIC for substituting Carrots with Zucchini:
2 Large Zucchini (Green)
1 Red Delicious Apple
1 Lime with skin
6 Large or 3 Super Large Swiss Chard Leaves
1 Medium Beet with a few of the Beet Greens
(This makes a fantastic, sweet and powerful tonic….one of our personal summertime faves)
Here’s some interesting facts about Zucchini:
Zucchini Squash is low in Saturated Fat and Sodium, and very low in Cholesterol. It’s also a good source of Protein, Vitamin A, Thiamin, Niacin, Phosphorus and Copper, and an excellent source of Dietary Fiber, Vitamin C, Vitamin K, Riboflavin, Vitamin B6, Folate, Magnesium, Potassium and Manganese. Usage: Raw in vegetable platters, but especially wonderful, shredded in salads, and used in juices to replace carrots.
Selection: Good-quality zucchini, also known as courgette in the U.K., should be firm, smooth-skinned and small in size. The surface will shiny and dark-green in color. Also, they come as Yellow. These are just as potent, if not more potent than the green Zucchini, because of the bright yellow colours.
Avoid: Avoid product that is soft, wrinkled, blemished or dull in appearance, or has fungus on the skins located on the soft parts of the Zucchini. Large squash will be less tender than smaller product. Zucchini is available year-round, with peaks in late spring and early summer.
Another good substitute for carrots are Cucumbers.
When you see a vegetable juice recipe that calls for carrots, and you don’t have any yellow or green zucchinis around, you can substitute 1 large cucumber for every 5 carrots. Why? Because cucumbers have more juice in them than zucchinis, plus the English Cucumbers are larger than most cucumbers. Cucumbers have a nice sweet taste to them as well.
We don’t recommend you using cucumbers that have wax on them. Be careful because some organic cucumbers can and ‘do’ have wax on them. Try buying the English Cucumbers that are packaged in plastic. Jay and I buy these frequently, and have found a good organic source where we will, and are confident you too can find them. Since we live in a small town, there shouldn’t be any troubles in finding them. Some organic growers don’t use the plastic to cover them, so just make sure to ask them for the organic English Cucumbers.
Here’s some great information about Cucumbers:
Cucumbers are low in Saturated Fat, awith very little Cholesterol and Sodium. They’re also a good source of Vitamin A, Pantothenic Acid, Magnesium, Phosphorus and Manganese, and a great source of Vitamin C, Vitamin K and Potassium. They are also very high in natural mineral water, so when juiced, it easily helps hydrate your skin.
Usage: Salads, Juices!
Selection: Good quality cucumbers are an even dark-green color, firm and relatively thin but can be either long or short.
Storage: Store in containers, either plastic zip lock or in a storage container. Otherwise they develop fungus and wilt.
Avoid: Avoid cucumbers that are soft, yellow or wrinkled on the ends, or especially the ones that have fungus on the skins. Huge fat cucumbers may be full of large seeds and bitter. That’s why we recommend English Cucumbers. They are not fat, they are slender and yield a superior amount of juice over the seeded, wetter, fatter kinds of cucumbers you get in the grocery store.
Here’s a great tonic substitution for carrot juice by using Cucumbers:
2 Large Cucumbers (preferably English)
3 cups Spinach
1 Lime with skin or 1 Lemon with skin
1 cup Parsley
2 Red Delicious Apples
1 inch square fresh Ginger Root
(This is a great tonic! It tastes fantastic, and is a super beautiful green colour. Most people can not even realize how sweet this tonic is, but it’s a fantastic drink for the summertime.)
When we age, it’s very easy to get caught up in a rut, staying at home most of the time, feeling like life has passed us by. Tragedies and traumas can get us down, even when we are younger, so these Principles can help anybody, no matter the age.
Since I feel God has blessed me with a passion for teaching people about juicing for over 6 decades now, I have been able to succeed in reaching an age that I know ALL of us can reach! May God Bless all of you at all times, and may He help instill these principles into your daily lives.
Here are my top ten tips…..
#1. Change your Diet! Eat an Organic Vegan Diet, and Juice Vegetables Daily, (up to 2 quarts per day) and eat Fruits in Season. This is probably the most important change you can make because it will help keep you vital, and open to change, just by virtue of these juices flowing through your body daily.
#2. Take Organic Superfood Supplements: Chlorella, Wheatgrass Juice, Barley Greens, Supergreen Powders Daily
#3. Take Cat Naps ~ Yes! Take a 20 to 30 minute cat nap daily. You can even do this at work. Even if you have to go to your car during lunch break, it’s that important.
#4. Exercise! 30 minute daily exercises are a must. Even if it’s a brisk walk. Getting in the outdoors is crucial, every single day. Trips to the gym are ok, but remember fresh air is priceless. Our lungs need it.
#5. Serve Others Daily. Find a way to help someone who is older or younger who is in need of help. Even if it’s a short note to someone who is hurting, or someone you can visit. Serving others selflessly keeps us connected as a large human family.
#6. Drink Water! Drink lots of purified water. I drink steam distilled water because I get my organic minerals from my vegetable juices. I recommend 6 glasses a day.
#7. Create Goals. As we age sometimes we lose focus and/or forget what brings passion into our lives. When we reach some of these goals, it keeps us mentally fit and optimistic.
#8. Forgiveness. We must forgive the past, no matter how much it impacted our lives. If we don’t forgive, it’s like walking forward with our head turned behind us. There is no healthy future when we are tied to the past. Let Go and Let God bring you the gifts that are waiting for you when you forgive.
#9. Overcome your Limitations! Overcoming our own inner fears is crucial to living a long healthy life. Once you get past these fears, you will feel a surge of incredible energy. It takes daily effort, but as you overcome each little fear, they become easier and easier to conquer.
#10. Throw out the Negativity. Never ever let negative thoughts enter your mind. Once you let them in, they grow like a cancer. The key to keeping optimistic is to substitute them for a loving or exciting thought.
